After your breakfast, begin our city tour from the Reunification Palace, formerly the Independence Palace of the South Vietnamese president. Strolling around classic European-style landmarks such as the ornate City Hall (Hotel De Ville), the old Opera House (both may only be viewed from the outside), and pay a quick visit to the neo-Romanesque Notredame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Afterwards visit Emperor of Jade Pagoda, one of Saigon's most interesting pagodas.
In the afternoon, continue to the harrowing War Remnants Museum, which comprehensively documents the travails of the long Vietnam- American War. Head out to Cholon (Chinatown), which makes Saigon differ from other cities of Vietnam. Explore the highlights of this fascinating area, beginning with a brief visit to Binh Tay Market, the vast wholesale market selling every kind of good from dried foods to T shirts to electronics. Continue to Thien Hau Pagoda, built by the Cantonese congregation and dedicated to the heavenly goddess. End your tour at the central Ben Thanh Market, where vendors display a vast array of goods and handicrafts, appealing to every taste.
Overnight in Saigon.
After breakfast, transfer to visit Cu Chi Tunnels, one of the few remaining monuments to the fierce Vietnam War. Beneath the ground lie 200 km of tunnels, dug by hand and inhabited by the forces of the Vietnamese guerillas during the conflict. At its peak, prior to the Tet Offensive in 1968, the tunnel complex was base to almost 10,000 troops. To this day, it remains one of the most impressive examples of how fierce the war used to be. Return to Saigon at noon.
