Welcome to Laos - Luang Prabang, the best-preserved Laos Cultural Heritage and traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. You will be transferred to the hotel and after a short rest, we visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai. We then climb up to the top of Mountain Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a beautiful view of the sunset of the city and Mekong River. We explore the night market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by the local and hill tribal people surrounding Luang Prabang.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

This is a full day trip combining a rafting tour with some sightseeing and an exciting elephant riding to/from Tad Sae waterfall. We will proceed to the Adventure and Elephant camp located 15 km from the downtown in the middle of unspoiled, natural green surroundings. After crossing the small river you will be introduced to our Asian Elephants and venture on a 1- 1,5 hour enchanting journey through forests, plantations and fields. These activities will provide you an unique experience with your own elephant getting through forests and along the Nam Khan River up to the waterfalls of Tad Sae. (In the dry season we ride a village trail). After the waterfall, lunch is served before a relaxing 30 minute rafting tour along the river back to the resort. The evening is free at your leisure.

Overnight in Lao Spirit resort.

After breakfast we head back towards Luang Prabang town to enjoy a short-guided tour of the city’s oldest temple, Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low representing classical Laotian architecture. We then embark on a boat journey upstream along the Mekong river, which also gives us a beautiful view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims. En route, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where you can taste the local product of Lao rice wine. On our way back to Luang Prabang we take a short stop at Ban Phanom, a village renown for its hand weaving.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Today we visit the National museum (close Tuesday) at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating back from the days of the early kings to the last sovereign. If time permits we will visit the central market before taking flight to Pakse. On arrival we drive southbound then take the long tail boat to Done Khone Island, the largest one in the South Mekong river region also known as the 4000 islands and one of the most scenic areas in Laos.

Overnight in Don Khone Island.

After an early breakfast, we explore the local villages of Ban Khone, where you will see an array of relics from the French colonial era and retrace the old colonial past, including old French colonial buildings and the remnants of the first Lao railway with it’s locomotive. We continue discover the 4000 islands area by boat to visit the Liphi, one of the most beautiful waterfalls marking the end of Lao border to Cambodia, also known as the Samphamith. If we are lucky, we may even see the rare freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin at Ban Hang Khone. Amazing place

Boyvian

Unique and stunning place to be visited for whoever stay in Luang Prabang, but.... the earlier you get there, the better you can enjoy this wonder of nature. Past 9:30 am, groups of tourists invade the place and a big part of the magic disappears in the mean time. Anyway it remains an unforgettable and refreshing half day trip.

Nice little island having the large waterfalls

Malcom Read

Easy to ride a bicycle from Don Det to Don Khone and back in a few hours as the islands are small. Can see guesthouses and restaurants on the way. We went to Tad Somphamit Waterfalls, another name is Liphi. Roads along the river are soil, not well paved in some parts, having small wooden bridges. Very peaceful. A great way to see local life and nature. Air is fresh but not cold in January, so bring water with you.

Another nice thing to see at Luang Prabang

Vandenberg hancock and Bullen family

They are beautiful and worth a visit. Some people go there by boat from Luang Prabang which is quite convenient but as We had a motorbike, we drove all the way up to there (45 min) and the took a cheap little boat across the river from the town to the caves. It’s definitely cheaper to go by motorbike! Just be careful on the road

My favourite island around here

Catherine Fraser

I really loved my staying in this island. Rent a scooter or a bike for a tour around it. It has so many beautiful corners. Like the waterfalls or the temple. It is not extremely touristic so you can find yourself passing through beautiful Lao villages. There is an amazing sunrise from the south of the island that is definitely worth the trip.

Excellent Food!

Bjorn Ischsson

Try the Pad Thai and mango shake. They are very good and the boss also speaks very good english..its called 'Sainyarin restaurant'.

Stunning

Nicholas Mos and Travy Pooley

A must see when visiting Luang Prabang. Fabulous swimming in crystal clear water in one of the 3 pools on thie side of the waterfall. Beautiful!

Lovely Island

Sarah Flannery

A lovely island .You can rent a bike motor cycle or motorbike tuktuk to go around you need about 2 hours.

Pak Ou Boat Cruise

Yleanna Garcia

We took the boat cruise to the caves and back. We stopped at a small village called the Whiskey village on the way to the caves. On the return trip a wonderful lunch was served. The cave step are moderately difficult to climb you may have to rest a few steps on the way up.

Just so beautiful

Bandini Sbigue

We hired a car and driver for the day so we could be flexible on what we wanted to do, for how long etc, and not have to ang around for others if sharing a ride. This was our first call of the day.. WOW... its simply stunning. We walked up the path from the car park to the lower pools, and then up past the pools where a few were in swimmig. Changing rooms are here. Then up past the restaurant, we called back there later. Then eventually reached the large fall at the end with the viewpoint on the bridge.. STUNNING.... You can do a loop walk around the top of the falls, but we did not do this. The restaurant serves lovely beers, and sandwiches.. Also located here is the bear sanctuary...We did not go in swimming, and spent 2 hours here.

Beautiful Caves!

Kester

The Pak Ou Caves are a beautiful! You gain access to the caves from the mighty Mekong River. There are hundreds of Buddha statues in the caves. A wonderful experience

Beautifull

Cirino Rasquace

The island is a beautifull place for relaxing also. In de nicht there is nothing for the night life you need to stay on Don Det. But when you want to rest Don Khone is the best place to go!
