Kuang Si Waterfall - Most beautiful waterfall in Laos

Kuang Si Waterfall is one of Laos' most popular tourist destinations. The trip to Laos is incomplete unless you visit this turquoise waterfall.

Even though it is 30 kilometers from the center of the ancient capital of Luang Prabang, the Kuang Si waterfall is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Laos. The white color of the waterfall, combined with the trees, creates a charming watercolor painting.


1. Where is Kuang Si Waterfall? 

The Kuang Si Waterfall, also known as the Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three-tiered waterfall located approximately 29 kilometers (18 miles) south of Luang Prabang. These waterfalls are a popular day excursion for visitors to Luang Prabang. The falls begin in tiny pools on the edge of a steep cliff. These lead to the main fall, which has a plunge of 60 meters (200 feet).

3. The best time to visit Kuang Si Waterfall

This is a question that worries many tourists, especially those who are traveling to Laos for the first time. In Laos, there are two seasons: the rainy season lasts from May to November, followed by the dry season from December to April. Visitors can choose to visit Kuang Si Falls during the rainy season, when the rainfall is heavy and the water slowly flows from upstream, creating a scene that many compare to a painting.

In addition, the best time to visit Kuang Si Fall Laos is from December to April or early May. The monsoon season had ended at the time, and the waterfall cascades were not too fast. During these months, water flows over the rocks more slowly, drifting smoothly over the limestone slabs and creating a beautiful turquoise color.

4. How to get to Kuang Si Waterfall?

From Luang Prabang city center, visitors can take a tuk tuk to go to Kuang Si Falls. With the price of tuk tuk rental for both the way and the back being about 200,000 kip (about 11 USD), visitors should go in groups to save on travel costs because one car can carry six people.
A tuk tuk is a vehicle for visiting Laos. Because the landscapes here are quite large and airy, visitors can comfortably ride a tuk tuk to admire the beautiful scenery on both sides of the road at an affordable price.

Coming to Kuang Si waterfall, you must travel through a rather zigzag road, which is quite difficult, but in exchange, you will be immersed in the clear blue waterfall, and a majestic scenery will appear right in front of your eyes. 

5. Things to do in Kuang Si Waterfall

After purchasing a ticket, you may follow the guide and ascend the stone stairs to gradually access the waterfall area, beginning at the reserve's main gate. You may stop by the bear refuge on the route. It cares for and protects the endangered black bear species. For your protection, you can only watch the bears frolic in the sun from a safe distance and, if permitted, feed them.

Exit the bear refuge and proceed a short distance to the butterfly park. This is a big area that has been planted with many perennial woody plants, various flora, and numerous butterflies and birds that soar and sing all day.

After strolling to your heart's content, you may proceed deep within in the original way to reach the Kuang Si waterfall region. The three-tiered waterfall runs all year and is surrounded by a lush tropical jungle.

You may rest your feet under the lush trees, pitch a tent, and converse with your buddies. You may also relax in the calm blue water of the lake beds. Foreign visitors frequently prefer to stand on a high rock or tree trunk and leap off, swim, and cool down.

Don't forget to check in with the wild and spectacular landscape in this area. From a distance, you can see three stories of the waterfall peeping out from the green woods. This region also includes a very sturdy wooden bridge that spans the lake, which many young people use as a backdrop for virtual reality.

Following the route, you may reach the top of the waterfall at a height of 50 - 60 m; however, the higher the road, the more difficult it is to travel. If you're feeling daring, you should get your climbing shoes and canes ready ahead of time. The reserve's administration will, however, continue to advise and dissuade youngsters and the elderly from participating in this procedure.

6. Kuang Si Waterfall Tourist Information 

- When arriving at the gate, visitors buy tickets to visit the waterfall, with a ticket price of about 20,000 kip per person (about 2 USD). It can be said that Kuang Si Fall is an attractive tourist destination; whenever you have the opportunity to set foot in this land, you cannot ignore destinations such as Kuang Si waterfall.

- The waterfall is located in the flora and fauna reserve of Laos, surrounded by dense mountains and forests, and flows into many streams and many large and small waterfalls. Visitors to Kuang Si Waterfall Laos, in addition to visiting the waterfall and discovering the rich flora and fauna, also have the experience of bathing in the waterfall, immersing themselves in the cool water flowing from above and floating in the middle of the ocean.

- At Kuang Si Lao waterfall, there are many dangerous areas that have been marked with "no swimming allowed."  Visitors should pay attention and comply to ensure their safety. However, on the lower floors of the waterfall, visitors can freely swim.
