The best time to visit Vietnam if you want to travel the whole land is in spring and autumn (February to April and August to November). Vietnam is a tropical monsoon country where the southern is closer to the equator. Spring and Autumn of Vietnam have more moderate temperatures and lighter rainfall. Especially in autumn, the weather is more equal through all the country land and very suitable to travel to any highlight destinations than Spring but if you want to experience the different type weather between destinations, Spring is the best time! In Spring, Vietnamese celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year celebration) and usually in late January or early February. During this time, Vietnamese take their holidays, so transport and accommodation options are often full and prices rise.

Hanoi

Hanoi is the special city with four separate seasons, and a lot of old building which create itself the unique, romantic and peaceful beauty. Hanoi is the first place that you should travel when to go to Vietnam.

March and April are Spring of Hanoi with greater weather. The temperatures are consistently above 20 °C and the Sky is often clear.

Hanoi Summer is super hot. June, July and August are the hottest months with the temperatures could reach to 40 °C and combined with the high humidity. At this time of year, it’s even hotter than in the south of Vietnam.

Best time to visit Hanoi

Temperatures in autumn drop slightly in September and in October and November, the weather is so wonderful. It is similar to March and April in terms of both temperature and rainfall, but there will be more sunshine and drier.

The winter from December to around February is very cold. The temperature can drop to 10 °C, with the humidity, wind chill factor and lack of building insulation and heating can make it feel much chillier. It’s also Tet time, a pretty and quiet time with a lot of flowers of the year in Hanoi.

In conclusion, you can go to Hanoi any time of the year but you should think much before experiencing the deep cold of winter which seems to touch to your bones even you wear a lot of clothes and the heat of Hanoi summer, the high temperature with high humidity could make you become breathless.

 

We visit to Hanoi in early December, it is cold there but people are warm! I love the peaceful view of Hanoi old quarter with the strange names of the streets and a lot of small Vietnamese fast food shops which moving around. Sapa

Sapa has a subtropical highland climate. Mean annual temperature for Sapa town is 15.4 °C (59.7 °F), with a maximum of 29.4 °C (84.9 °F) and a minimum of 1.0 °C (33.8 °F). The warmest months are July and August, and the coldest months are December and January. (Wikipedia) 
The view of Sapa changes through the time of the year. But to travel to Sapa, the best time to travel is March and April when it is warm and dry or in October and November for cooler weather with the clear deep blue sky.

Best time to visit Sapa

If you are a photographer, you can enjoy Sapa scenes changing with the routine magic picture: Sapa in May is green with terraced fields of young rice plant, Sapa in October is yellow with terraced ripened rice fields and Sapa in December has peach & plum color with spring flower. If you want to go to Sapa in winter, you should bring some very warm coat because the weather could become very chilly with frost.

Do not go to Sapa on summer because it is the rainy season which lasts from May to September, especially in July and August months are the wettest season. It is very dangerous, when heavy downpour could make land slide.

 

Ha Long Bay

This is the place that you must not miss when to visit Vietnam. Ha Long has tropical coastal climate weather which can be mainly divided into 2 seasons: cold dry winter and hot humid summer.

Ha Long Bay Winter is from November to March, the weather is coldest in January and February, it is not suitable if you want to swim or scuba diving in this season.

Summer begins in May and lasts until September, Ha Long Bay is full of sunshine with the deep blue sky and very suitable for the long holidays, you can go swimming, scuba diving, kayaking... and explore the jungles. Ha Long people also usually celebrate many big festivals in April which attract a lot of tourists. However, from August to November, there may have some typhoons, you should be careful if you decide to travel to Ha Long Bay this time.

 

Hue – Hoi An – Da Nang

Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang are in central Vietnam. They have two main seasons: Wet season and Dry season.

Wet season of Hue is from September to December with heavy rains, especially in October and November. It is dangerous for tourists to travel these months because it can cause floods. January to August is dry season, the highest temperatures is 35°C in the middle of the season.

Best time to visit Hoi An

Da Nang and Hoi An are located around the central coastline. They are warm all the year with the highest temperatures about 38°C in July and August. The dry season is from February until July with a lot of sunshine and this is the most beautiful time for you to visit and relax. From August to November is wet season with rainfall and water levels rise. There may be typhoons hit during the season.

 

Da Lat

Da Lat is a beautiful place and famous with many kinds of flowers, it is also a romantic place for couples on holidays and have the best memories and best time to go to Vietnam. Da Lat weather is like any other mountainous areas in the Middle Vietnam with 2 main seasons: dry season and wet season. To compare with many other places in Vietnam, Da Lat has a more pleasant climate.

The best time to travelto Da Lat is winter - the dry season from December to April when the weather is cool, fresh and very comfortable, especially in January, there is an annual flower festival when a lot of flowers from the city and Vietnam are exhibited. The temperatures of this time are around 23°C, but it is often colder in the night.

Da Lat in summer months from May to August has higher rainfalls but there is not so hot or has any storm here.

 

Nha Trang

You can visit Nha Trang any time of the year because the weather here is very comfortable. While most of the Southern of Vietnam is turned into wet weather for half of a year, Nha Trang has only four months from September to December. There might have heavy rain with typhoon which causes danger for tourists. If you plan to travel to Nha Trang this period, you should make sure about the local weather forecast.

Best time to visit Nha Trang

However, the best time to visit Nha Trang is from February untill April, when temperature is moderate at around 26-27°C. The summer here has sunlight and hot weather, suitable for any types of natural tourism such as ecotourism and water sports; while the other months could be pleasing for tourists to visit cultural and historical places.

If you love Nha Trang but dislike the heat with high humidity, there is a small advised for you to travel to Nha Trang before July and August.

 

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Ho Chi Minh city is suitable for tourists to go to any time of the year. Ho Chi Minh city is much closer to the equator so the temperature is warm all the year, with the averaging temperature around 28°C. Like any other Southern places in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh city has 2 seasons: wet and dry season and the best time to go there is the dry one.

Best time to visit Sai gon

Starting from December and lasting till April, the dry season is not so hot and the humidity is moderate. During this period, tourists can celebrate Christmas and New Year with local people. These times, streets and hotels are filled with colorful decorations, people hang out and enjoy shopping in a lot of sale-off shops. It is also a great opportunity to see how Southern Vietnamese enjoy their own “Tet” Festival.

Wet season is from May to November, it will be so hot and has much rain. The average temperature is about 28 °C with 39 °C at peak around noon time of April. The rain is often short at the day time and they stop quickly as they come and then the sunshine even brighter.

 

Phu Quoc Island:

Phu Quoc also has 2 seasons but the fact that you can go to Phu Quoc in any times of the year. That is the reason why this place is highly visited all the year.

The dry season of Phu Quoc is from November to April when skies are blue, the sea is clear. This is the best time to enjoy the beach, sea or dive. It is cooler from around December and January.

From May to September is the wet season, like Ho Chi Minh city, the weather is much milder and it can be raining constantly any time of the day. From June to October, the humidity is very high.
